Prevalence and Role as an Independent Predictor of Cerebrovascular Events in Cardiac Patients

چکیده
Background and Purpose The cause of cerebral and peripheral embolism remains undetermined in a significant number of patients. An atherosclerotic thoracic aorta has thus far been considered to be an uncommon one. Methods To define the potential role of the ascending thoracic aorta as an embolic source, intraoperative ultrasonic aortic imaging was performed in 1200 of 1334 consecutive patients aged 50 years and older who were undergoing cardiac surgery. Patients were divided into two groups according to the results of the ultrasound study in terms of presence or absence of atherosclerotic disease. The prevalence of previous neurological events in the two groups was characterized and compared. Results Ascending aortic atherosclerosis was present in 231 (19.3%) of the patients studied. Patients in this category were older (P<.0001). A higher percentage of them were smokers (P<.0001) compared with patients with less severe disease. Coronary artery disease was more extensive (P=.O12), and a higher percentage of these patients had a history of peripheral

The role of myocardial perfusion SPECT in short-term cardiac prognosis of end-stage renal disease
Introduction: One of the most important causes of death in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and even after kidney transplantation is cardiovascular diseases. Thus, cardiac evaluation is of utmost importance in the management of these patients especially during preoperative work up before renal transplantation. The aim of present study is to evaluate the role of myoc...
متن کاملPrediction of long-term cardiac events by 123I-MIBG imaging after acute myocardial infarction and reperfusion therapy
Objective(s): In heart failure, the heart-to-mediastinum (H/M) ratio of the delayed image and washout rate (WR) are well-known as a powerful cardiac event predictors. H/M ratio quantifies the accumulation rate of MIBG in the myocardium and WR quantifies reduction of meta-iodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) accumulation in the heart from the early planar image to the delayed pla...
متن کاملInitial documented rhythm as a predictor of survivalto-discharge rate after in-hospital cardiac arrest in a tertiary care referral institute, South India: an observational study
Objective: Survival-to-discharge rates following in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) patients remain significantly low. The use of initial documented cardiac rhythm as predictor of Survival-to-discharge is still unclear. This study aimed to assess whether the initial documented rhythm can be used as a predictor of survival-to-discharge following IHCA in an emergency department of the tertiary car...

متن کاملThe prognostic value of stress/rest gated myocardial perfusion SPECT in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease
Introduction:Gated myocardial perfusion SPECT has diagnostic and prognostic values in coronary artery disease (CAD). We tried to determine prognostic values of the left ventricular perfusion & functional indices as well as transient left ventricular dilation (TID) derived from gated myocardial perfusion SPECT. Methods: 1820patients who underwent gated myo...
